PCR Test Vs. Rapid Antigen Test, what are the difference?

People have been accustomed to the various safety measures such as wearing a mask, maintaining social distance, proper hand hygiene, and more. All of which are necessary to prevent contracting the virus.

The virus can be spread from person to person when people are in close contact with each other. It is because of the respiratory droplets of an infected person that may land in the nose or mouth of people nearby either by talking, coughing, and sneezing.

It can also be spread from contact with infected surfaces or objects, although it is the least common way of transmission.

As the risk of spreading the virus is high, the need to identifying infected people became a priority in helping prevent further transmission. As part of the effort, the importance of COVID-19 tests was widely recognized worldwide and has been one of the most effective ways in preventing the virus’s spread.

Before traveling, especially traveling internationally, airlines now require travelers to present a fit-to-fly certificate.

In the UK, a London fit-to-fly covid test is necessary for a grant to travel. The most common test that travelers must take is a PCR test in London, and like most airlines, a PCR test is what they require as it is considered the “gold standard” of identifying an active infection.

However, another diagnostic test called the Rapid antigen test is a viable option for people if they want to get tested. Both of the said tests are reliable for identifying whether a person has COVID-19.

Many are aware of both tests, yet aside from them being both an option for COVID-19 testing, only a few know their difference.
